Chele (Brown) Schirmer was born January 28, 1965 in Elkton, Maryland to the parents of Dave and Claudette. Chele graduated from Elkton High School in 1983 and then attended Harford Community College. Today, Chele resides in Bel Air with her husband Jim Schirmer and two sons Matt (16) and Andrew (14) Rutherford.
Chele Schirmer has established herself over the last 35 years as an accomplished youth, collegiate, amateur and professional bowler. Starting her career at Cecil (Elk) Lanes at the age of seven, once she stepped onto the lanes she knew she found her passion.
Moving to Harford County in 1988, she joined leagues at Bel Air Bowl and Harford Lanes where she became the first woman to average 200 and bowl a 700 series in the Harford County Women's Bowling Association.
She has also received the Margaret Russell Memorial Award five times, having the highest composite average during a season. Most recently, in 2006 at Forest Hill Lanes, the team Our Pleasure -Cheryl McCallum, Elly Ripken and Debbie Kulm won first place scratch in the HCWBA tournament. Debbie and Chele won scratch doubles and Chele won scratch all events.
Also being a member of the Baltimore Women's Bowling Association since 1983, Chele has bowled in 21 association tournaments capturing 23 titles over the years. Chele, along with her team, Four-of-a-Kind -Colleen Fino, Chrissy Bennett and Debbie Kuhn . hold the team scratch and handicap record. Chele also holds the scratch singles record (782) and scratch all-events record (2236).
Chele was inducted into the BWBA Hall of Fame in 1999.
On the state level, Chele holds the scratch singles record (763) and the scratch team record (2609) with the team Four-of-a-Kind. Chele and Debbie also hold the scratch doubles record (1495).
For three consecutive years, Chele received the President's Award for having the highest series during the Maryland State tournament.
In 2006, Chele won the Maryland State Queens tournament, with which she will represent Maryland in the USBC Queens tournament to be hosted in Charlotte, North Carolina, April 2007. Chele was inducted to the Maryland State Hall of Fame in 2003.
Chele has bowled in the WIBC, now USBC, national tournament since the age of 18, along with the USBC Queens event. Bowling in the classic division, her best team fmish has been fifth and her best doubles fmish was fourth. In 1989, she fmished sixth in the Queens tournament and the following year she finished fourth while being 3 months pregnant with her first son.
Always wanting to become a professional bowler, Chele decided to go to DuBois, PA for her first Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) Regional tournament. She became the 2000 Straub Brewery PWBA Regional champion. She tasted victory and wanted more, but how?
Chele received a brochure in the mail from Ebonite International. Ebonite was hosting a one-week camp for women who wanted to improve their game and had an interest in bowling on the PWBA tour. That's all she needed -and with her husband's approval-she packed her bags and drove to Columbia, Tennessee. Chele is proud to say she has been an Ebonite staff member since 2001.
She returned home from the camp, quit her job and joined the PWBA tour. This was the best time of her life. She was living her dream -a short dream -with the tour disbanding in 2003. Although she missed many events and family functions while she was gone, she wanted her children to see if you work hard at something and believe in yourself, only YOU can make your dreams come true.
