Marilyn has been a member of the Harford County Women's Bowling Association for 28 years and served as the organization's President from 1976 thru 1984.
During her tenure, many new policies and programs were established. Among these were an Awards Program, the design of an association pin, an active Ways and Means Committee and a Junior Bowler's Scholarship for graduating seniors.
Also, during her eight year term, Marilyn encouraged more delegate participation to State Annual Meetings and National Conventions.
The Bowler of the Year Award was changed from the All Events Winner of the local tournament, to the highest composite average for the season. (This later was named the Margaret Russell Memorial Award.)
Marilyn also reactivated the Pin Dust Newsletter to keep bowlers informed and up to date with bowling news. As a leader, she displayed much interest, dedication and untiring efforts which have contributed to a fine, productive organization.
In 1984. Marilyn was elected a Life Member of the HCWBA and she has continued to be active. Since her presidency she has served the association as Chairman of the Finance & Budget. Policy & Procedures, Legislative and Secretary of the Year Committees. She was also the first to chair the HCWBA Historical Committee. the Hall of Fame Study Group and the Special Projects Committee. Marilyn has also been a member of the Average Book and various committees associated with the annual tournament. She is a Certified Lane Inspector, one of the first women in this area to become such.
From 1978 thru 1981, Marilyn served on the MD State WBA Board as a Director. In 1981 thru 1987. she was elected 3rd Vice President. and in 1988, was bestowed the Member Emeritus Award from the State Association. After a short respite. Marilyn again became a Director on the State Board in 1991 to the present. In that capacity she served as Chairman of Finance & Budget, Awards, Tournament Policy and Review. Queen's Tournament Review and as a member of the Hall of Fame, Tournament Promotion, Policy and Legislative committees.
Marilyn has participated in no less than 25 HCWBA tournaments many MD State tournaments and a number of WIBC Nationals. She served Harford County as a delegate to the MD State Annual Meetings for six years.
She is a fine bowler, giving her best with every ball she throws. Marilyn has contributed to the team efforts in winning eight first place team titles and two doubles titles in the local association tournaments. She has won several mixed doubles titles with husband, Mike. and she captured the Harford Invitational in 1977.
Marilyn's exemplary display of leadership. devotion and dedication to the Harford County and MD State WBA, along with her love for the sport of bowling. entitle her to the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Harford County Women's Association Hall of Fame.
